27 Days Post Op

WOW I can’t believe I skipped week 3. That just goes to show how fast time has gone (once I got through the worst part). Looking back, I can say that I completely agree with what everyone else says about this surgery- once you get past the first week or two, everything is so much better.

As soon as I felt up to it, I started working out and going for walks toward the end of week one, and since then I’ve kept as busy as possible. After about two weeks I felt comfortable enough to see some of my best friends for smoothies and what not, and I’ve been doing many things out of the house with my family and friends within reason. Sure, I’ve had to turn down some trips to the beach, parties, and had to sell my Foo Fighter’s tickets for 4th of July in DC…but it’s OK. Because tomorrow it will have been ONE MONTH and HOPEFULLY my surgeon takes most of my bands off and I’ll finally start to eat and talk again!

As soon as I felt up to it, I started working out and going for walks torward the end of week one, and since then Ive kept as busy as possible. After about two weeks I felt comfortable enough to see some of my best friends for smoothies and what not, and Ive been doing many things out of the house with my fakily and friends within reason. Sure, Ive had to turn down some trips to the beach, parties, and had to sell my Foo Fighter’s tickets for 4th of July in DC…but it’s OK. Because tomorrow it will have been ONE MONTH and HOPEFULLY my surgeon takes most of my bands off and I’ll finally start to eat and talk again!

I have to admit..I’ve cheated, and I think I have endless protein shakes, green tea, and excercise to thank for that. This past week, my jaw has felt so much more capable. One day, I just decided that I was ready for an Italian ice. Before then, I abstained from even trying anything that wasn’t pure liquid. But the way my bands were placed these past two weeks allowed a tiny spoon to fit through the front. I decided that I was ready, and since then I’ve practiced eating with that tiny spoon every day.

It’s been 27 days and I am proud to say that tonight, I HAD MY FIRST REAL MEAL. That’s right. We had some family over, so of course that means grilling and delicious side dishes…I had a breakdown on the 4th of July because everyone including my boyfriend got to eat and I had to just sit there miserable. But tonight, I had cucumbers, tomatoes, bread, potato salad, grilled vegetables, and dessert! Basically everything except the meat, and I even snapped a rubber band in the process!! I can’t particularly chew, but I was able to mash up all these foods and get them down. For the first time in a month, I feel so full and satisfied and it’s amazing.

I have another appointment tomorrow, and my surgeon said he will begin removing some stitches. Some are going to dissolve on their own, but some he is supposed to take out. He is also supposed to remove the tight bands in the front so that I will no longer be banded “shut,” but I will still have light bands on the sides. I will check back in tomorrow!!!

unfortunately, I am suffering a terrible breakout
